THE PADILLA FIFTEEN
Fifteen cigars. Three vitolas. Two countries. The story of the brand in one box.
Five Padilla 1932 Torpedo Maduro. Five Padilla 1932 Toro Maduro. Both blended by Pepín García in 2003 and named for the year my father was born. Both rolled at AJ Fernandez in Nicaragua and wrapped in dark, twice-fermented Maduro leaf — cocoa, leather, espresso.
Five Padilla Miami Toro, Habano-wrapped, made in the United States. Rolled by hand in Little Havana at El Titán de Bronze, the small Calle Ocho factory that has been doing it the old Cuban way since 1995. Level 9 Cuban master rollers — some of whom rolled at El Laguito, Romeo y Julieta, and Partagás before exile brought them to Miami. The traditional entubado method. Triple cap. One roller, start to finish, name on the bottom of the box.
The Maduro side carries the soil of Nicaragua. The Habano side carries the hands of Cuba — in America. Two wrappers. Three vitolas. One box.
Production on the Miami toro is small by design. When the Cuban rollers run out of hours in the day, the run is done. Limited supply.
If you’ve never smoked a Padilla, this is the box.
