Some things arrive without ceremony. These came from the factory in bare wooden boxes. No stain. No logo. Just wood, a lid, and twenty-five unreleased cigars with something to say.

Inside: the Padilla Finest Hour Corojo, a box-pressed 6 × 52 wrapped in rare, expensive, first-generation Cuban-seed Corojo. The lineage that helped make Corojo the king of wrappers.

The story began at Cuba’s El Corojo farm, in the great tobacco country of Pinar del Río. There, Diego Rodríguez developed the wrapper that would become a cornerstone of the Cuban cigar’s reputation. Later, Cuba turned toward more disease-resistant hybrids. But the original Corojo had already earned its place in cigar history. 

That is the tradition behind this leaf. And these ten boxes give it a very personal setting.

Ernesto Padilla was an artist before you knew his cigars. He still is. Put him on a telephone call and his hand starts moving. Paper, an envelope, whatever is within reach. This time, it was the wooden cigar boxes.

What began as factory packaging became a canvas.

Each of these ten boxes carries an original sketch, drawn directly on the wood by Ernesto himself. Inside are twenty-five prototype cigars from an unreleased Finest Hour blend. Outside is the evidence that creativity does not wait for an invitation.

We persuaded Ernesto to let them go for $275 a box—$11 per cigar, with the original artwork included. He has never had much patience for charging a fortune simply because something is scarce.

It’s a work of art. And you can smoke it.

You could put the whole thing away and collect it, of course. Ernesto would have something to say about that.
